Ultradiana_I
A performance by Francesco Fonassi
curated by Francesco Stocchi
15 October 2016
On the occasion of the 16° Rome Quadriennale, Fondazione Memmo presents Ultradiana_I, a Francesco Fonassi’s performance curated by Francesco Stocchi.
Through actions, audiovisuals and installations, Fonassi investigates the human attitude to suffer or react to aggression, isolation, interruption. This performance designed for Fondazione Memmo’s courtyard consists of a sound work for elecronics and recorded voice, mixed and reproduced on magnetic tape during a collective listening session lasting from noon to midnight.
The original vocal performance takes place without public, in the underground Parking spaces of Villa Borghese, designed in 1966 by architect Luigi Moretti. The many “pressed” vaults of the Parking produce a particular sound effect, used by performers Letizia Fiorenza Sautter and Carlotta Martina Crapes to work on beat frequencies, impulses and voice percussions trough polyrhythms dialogue.
Performance title is inspired by ultradian rhythms, biological rhythms characterized by a frequency period lower than twenty-four hours, where some functions of human body inclines to repeat. Through this internal system the body is always synchronized with the natural cycle of the day by external natural and/or induced stimulus.
The continued listening of Ultradiana_I opens a choral and ritual space of audiovisual conditioning: the voice takes the guest to a changed conscience state that for twelve hours enquires the evolutionary function and linguistic of sonorous space.
