Jakub Woynarowski’s installation was made specifically for the facade of Palazzo Ruspoli as part of Conversation Piece | Part IV – Giant steps are what you take, curated by Marcello Smarrelli. The title of the work, Characteristica Universalis, pays homage to the philosopher and mathematician Gottfried Leibniz, who sought to identify a formal and universal language expressed through a series of symbols, mathematical, scientific, architectural and metaphysical concepts.
These are evocative symbols, printed on panels with a black background, halfway between the esoteric codes and the language of the graphic design: very clear in formal terms and, at the same time, enigmatic figures that establish an active dialogue with the passersby.
SOCIAL NETWORK SPECIAL PROJECTS
In 2020, the temporary closure of the exhibition space has prompted the Fondazione Memmo to pursue its activities in an alternative manner.
Through Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts, a campaign was launched, curated by Saverio Verini, involving some of the artists who have collaborated with the Foundation in recent years, among them: Jonathan Baldock, Rossella Biscotti, Rebecca Digne, Corinna Gosmaro, FrancescaGrilli, Isabell Heimerdinger, Thomas Hutton, Invernomuto, Christoph Keller, Diego Marcon, Jonathan Monk, OscarMurillo, Anna-Bella Papp, Calixto Ramirez, Maaike Schoorel, Marinella Senatore, Claudia Wieser, Jakub Woynarowski.
Each artist has made a visual contribution capable of reflecting in a personal way on the moment we are going through: drawings, videos, photographs, images found on the internet have thus formed a small gallery able to testify vitality and desire to look beyond. Through this series of posts on its social network channels, the Fondazione Memmo desired to offer a positive signal, becoming an amplifier of the artists’ voices.
